Digital Transformation in Transport: Key milestones of the eFTI directive and the role of AI.
Digitization is no longer optional: the eFTI Regulation is leading the way to more efficient, transparent and sustainable logistics in Europe. Companies in the transport sector must prepare for a timetable of regulatory and technological changes that will transform document and operational management.
Most relevant milestones for the next 3 years:
September 2025: The European Commission will adopt the final technical and functional specifications for the full implementation of eFTI, including requirements for platforms and service providers.
January 2026: eFTI platforms and service providers must be operational. National authorities may start accepting data stored on certified platforms for inspections and verifications.
December 2026 - July 2027: Full entry into force of the eFTI Regulation, obliging Member State authorities to accept digital documentation and marking the beginning of the obligation for the entire logistics chain.
