You wouldn't start laying bricks without a master plan, would you?&nbsp;<strong>DAMA DMBOK<\/strong>&nbsp;(<em>Data Management Body of Knowledge<\/em>is that urban plan for your data.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This international standard tells us that Data Governance is not an island, but must connect with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Data Architecture<\/strong>\u00a0How are systems structured?.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Security<\/strong>\u00a0How we protect private information.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Operations:<\/strong>\u00a0How do we save and retrieve the data daily.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without this framework, each department would try to \u00abbuild its own house\u00bb without looking at its neighbor, resulting in a completely disorganized city (or company).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The importance of the RACI matrix in the data operating model<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As expert Carlos Olivera rightly points out, the&nbsp;<strong>Operating Model<\/strong>&nbsp;is what allows the strategy to land in day-to-day reality. It's not enough to say \u00abwe're going to govern data\u00bb; you have to define the workflows. And this is where the&nbsp;<strong>RACI Matrix<\/strong>&nbsp;becomes indispensable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RACI is an acronym that defines four fundamental roles for each task or process:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Responsible<\/strong>\u00a0It's the one who \u00abbreaks rocks.\u00bb The one who executes the technical or administrative task.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Accountable (Authority\/Accountable person):<\/strong>\u00a0He\/She is the owner of the process. There can only be one per task. If something goes wrong, he\/she is the one accountable; if it goes well, he\/she is the one who signs off on the success.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Consulted<\/strong>\u00a0Experts or areas that provide valuable information. They do not execute, but their opinion is necessary before moving forward.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Informed<\/strong>\u00a0People who need to know the progress or outcome but are not involved in the execution or decision-making.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Example: Data Governance in a Banking Environment<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To understand how the RACI model avoids conflict, let's look at a critical process:\u00a0<strong>The approval of a new customer segmentation model for mortgages.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Responsible (R):<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0<strong>Data Science Team<\/strong>. They are the ones who program the algorithm, clean the data, and run the technical tests. They are the ones who \u00abdo\u00bb the work.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Accountable<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0<strong>Chief Data Officer<\/strong>\u00a0or the Mortgage Business Owner. He doesn't program the algorithm, but he is the one who gives the final \u00abokay.\u00bb If the model fails and the bank loses money, the ultimate responsibility is his. His role is to ensure the process meets the company's objectives.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Consulted (C):<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0<strong>Legal and Compliance Department<\/strong>. Before activating the model, the Data Science team asks: \u00abCan we use the \u2018marital status\u2019 data for this calculation according to current law?\u00bb.
